I grew up rarely going to the Doctor. Got my teeth cleaned every 6 months but we had to be half dead before we went to the Doctor. Anyway, I have a little bit of that in me now. Ignore it and maybe it’ll go away. For the past 2-3 weeks baby Kai has been waking up screaming every 2-3 hours all night long. He inherited a cold after I hosted a baby mama playdate at my house. I figured he was stuffy and irritable from his cold so couldn’t sleep. In the meantime, he’s 7 months old so I figured “teething” is here. No fever, just lots of drool and a little extra “fun”(fussy) baby attitude sometimes. However, he still seemed pretty darn happy so I didn’t think much of it. Then I noticed some colored snot. I called his doctor and mentioned he’s had a little cold for a week or two. It was Wednesday and I decided to wait 2 days because we were already coming in for a flu booster on Friday. Sure enough, he had an ear infection which can be common cause for frequent night wakings. Off to the pharmacy for amoxicillin.
After 2 messy days of learning to squirt amoxicillan down Kai’s throat, my nipples started to burn. Shit, fuck! Since, I’ve had thrush two times this year and I recognized the painful nipple burn while breastfeeding. In the past, I waited until it was excruciating before I called my Doctor to ask about it. This time, I looked it up and found breastfed babies taking antibiotics can cause thrush. This was Sunday so I scooted over to the natural grocery store for some probiotics. Still thinking, maybe I can kick thrush naturally this time. After getting schooled on probiotics and chugging the $5 1 ounce yogurt drink, I thought maybe, just maybe.
Monday morning came along with the hope that Kai wouldn’t want to breastfeed today. I called my Doctor for another Rx of Diflucan because baby Kai loves to eat!
After a few days of us both taking medicine, I slept for the first time in weeks last night. Must’ve had a collection of 6 hours total sleep, which is fantastic! We’re not bringing an ear infection or thrush on our 16 hour flight tomorrow. Yahoo!
Glory hallelujah for western medicine!

good job mama!:)
We try to go the natural route most of the time, but sometimes you need a shot of the strong stuff. Glad you got some sleep & hope everyone is back to 100% soon!
Thanks Ma! I still remember you dragging me to Dr. Merrick’s office when I had the crud as a kid. Pajamas, blanket and all. Love!
Nothing like a happy baby for the health of the parents! Kai has the best mother. Look at him! Don’t take my word!
